solid sushi restaurant that is part of the food court located on the 2nd floor of the H-mart. Their sushi tastes above average and their prices are comparable to other sushi joints around philly. Random side note, they cannot serve hot tea here because according to the bylaws of the food court, the restaurant right next to them already sells tea, making them unable to sell any...for anyone who loves drinking hot tea with their sushi, heads up!

Super fresh food and at great prices. Owner is a very cool guy who always remembers his customers. Great party platters!

My mom loves this place! She says the fish is fresh and she likes the options. Her favorite is the Play Girl (cucumber, avocado, spicy salmon with more spicy salmon) Mine is the Eel Dragon (cucumber eel, eel, avocado crunch, sauce, scallion, masago) The people working there are very friendly and you get your order pretty quickly. The only thing I would say is that they have a lot of repeating tempura options and a lot of them seem to be the same. I am not really a tempura for sushi fan so I would like to see more raw options and this would get a 5 star from me. It is on my top 3 favorite sushi places though!

Having H-Mart just below your restaurant where fresh ingredients are always available helps this restaurant provide really good and fresh sushi. The fish is fresh and the rice is the right consistency and flavor. I would say that the portion size is pretty big and the hand rolls are a little bigger then I am used to, however the different flavors and sauces that they provide are delicious. Don't expect a great seating and ambience unless you like the cafeteria style seating in the best food court in town :-)

This is by far the most delectable, palatable sushi place I have ever tried- and i have tried many! Their rolls are to travel for! This place definitely deserves more hype but because its located in a corner of a food court at H-Mart- far too few people can spot it so that must be the only reason the hype is not hype! (Its also located on 69th street) I love going on Wednesdays because if you buy any two rolls you get the third free! My favorite rolls I have tried are: Pink Lady, Bad Girl and Tiger. the thing about these sushi rolls is that its different- yes they are specialty rolls but they are not basic sushi! They have a unique flavor and taste to them that only make you crave them throughout your life. Oh and the crunch they add to the sushi is absolutely delicious! Trust me, these rolls wont disappoint!

YAHOOOOO! Awesome sushi. I came here for the 2 for 1 rolls and for $20.00 I left with three massive rolls. They were delicious. The service was super quick. Do call ahead! They can have your rolls ready for when you get there!

NOTE: As of Dec 2014, the menu at Tomo has changed and I suspect it might be under new management. Not sure what that means for the quality of the sushi -- will update my review after I get a chance to check it out! **************** One of Upper Darby's best kept secrets, the Terminal Square H-Mart near 69th Street plays host to one of the best sushi joints in Philadelphia. Though located in a supermarket food court, the sushi at Tomo is decidedly not your typical food court fare. I would recommend trying the simpler, more authentic sushi options here. The nigiri-zushi (single piece of sliced fish on top of rice, without wrapping) is particularly good. The fish here always tastes clear and flavorful, even without any condiments--the true mark of good, fresh fish--and the rice is lightly vinegared and topped with a dash of zingy wasabi. The precision of the craftsmanship is quite remarkable--you can really taste the difference; though simply fish on rice, the nigiri-zushi is surprisingly satisfying. You can also find on the menu the usual Americanized California Superman Dragon Rolls, topped with avocado, cream cheese, and pizza sauce (kidding about the pizza sauce)--but even these are executed more nicely than what you'd usually find around town. For the sushi itself, I would easily pick this place over other sushi restaurants in Philly, even though the ambiance and location leave something to be desired. I suspect--though haven't actually confirmed--that the chefs here are actually Japanese-trained; a claim that few sushi shops on this side of the Pacific can make.

This place reminds me of those "best kept secrects" that mainly only the locals know about that you see on those PBS travel shows. My lady and I are vegan and even though there are only a handful of options for us on the menu, all of them are absolutely fresh, delicious and fully satisfying. The avocado rolls, and cucumber rolls were the best we've had. Although the ingredients are simple, they are fresh and full of flavor. Suprisingly, they were filling as well. Two rolls filled me up but they were so good that I managed to eat another roll. If you eat fried, their sweet potato tempura roll is amazing. The contrast of testures of soft sticky rice and crunchy tempura were the perfect vessel for the soft and chewy sweet potato. For desert, their pumpkin tempura was fun and yummy. It left a lingering, sweet delicious flavor in your mouth. It looked almost like friend shrimp! They also give you a small miso soup with your order! The staff was also very friendly. Weds is buy 2 get 1 free. It's a great deal. Sure, this is in a food court but it's almost like being in a different world away from 69th street. There are some make-up and houseware shops on the same floor. It's kinda fun to walk around if its your first time there. The H Mart downstairs had some great hot sauce and stir fry sauces as well as tea. Parking was no problem outside. It's metered but a quarter gets you 45 mins.

Always great! I've tried a bunch of stuff on the menu and it's always fresh. I recommend the sweetheart roll. Very consistent service. I highly recommend them for 1st time sushi eaters. They got me hooked.

I chose to give Tomo a try based on the Yelp rating and the great review by Vanessa W. Intrigued by my curiosity of setting sushi on fire, I described to the chef what I had read and was told it is a sushi roll filled with crab and tuna called, "Kiss of Fire". Nothing was out of the ordinary as they prepared the roll, but then they poured some fluid on a plate and lit it ablaze! After a few minutes cooking in this manner, the fire went out and I began to dig in. The first bite was a little smoky and not what I was accustomed to in my sushi. I had to pause for a moment and determine whether I had chosen the wrong dish for the sake of the presentation. By the third bite, I had become accustomed to the taste and found it delightful. It grew on me very quickly. Needless to say, I had no problems finishing the rest of it. If you're looking for some fantastic sushi and perhaps something a little different like sushi on fire, Tomo is a great choice!!

This place never disappoints me ! The best sushi bar in UD that I have ever been to ! I've recently tried the buy 2 get 1 free roll & it was a good deal ! Their rolls are delicious & creative in ways you can't describe . I never had any complaints , they always give me their best efforts to make the best food . This is the place to go around in UD for best sushi .

Fantastic service, I love this place! I come here every once in a while to indulge in my sushi cravings. It's on the pricey side but the meal options are generous. The guys are so nice about explaining the sushi options, what's in them and how it's made. And I definitely appreciate the buy two get one free Wednesday option!

This place is -fantastic-. I learned about it from this very web site. A friend and myself had been searching high and low for a place that served Okonomiyaki. It's a dish served at a Japanese place in our home town and we were in love with it all through high school. The restaurant closed down, my friend has since moved to Philadelphia and I am in Lancaster, but we didn't have much luck in our oko searches. Yelp to the rescue! We had a bit of a hard time finding the place, but when we finally arrived, we were not disapointed. The sushi was amazing! Fresh, buttery, beautifully presented and most importantly, delicious. We got several rolls and the Tomo special bento box. Of course, we also got an oko, and it was like taking a bite back in time. We demolished the entire meal, much to the surprise of the gentleman behind the counter. He was amazing as well. The service there is really top notch and everyone is SUPER friendly and pleasant. To finish the meal, we wanted some green tea ice cream mochi's, but he said his were old and didn't want to serve us sub par product. Instead, he gave us each a melon pop at no charge! the prices here are very decent and depending on what you are in the mood for, you can spend anywhere from $10 to $40, easily. Thanks to the truly wonderful service and scrumptus food, we came back again a few months later. We didn't see okonomiyaki on the special board, so I inquired about it. The same gentleman confirmed they still had it and then recognized us! It was a real treat to be remembered, especially since we'd only been there once before. The sushi and oko was just as delicious this time as last time. We did have to take some home, however, because I had gotten bibimbap from a different restaurant (Jian Korean Food) and it was rather filling. After mentioning this, the gentleman (I wish I knew his name! I think he may be the owner?) went on to recomment two other dishes from Jian for us to try next time! I can't say enough good things about this place. The food is superb and the service is really out of this world. Much more then one would expect from a food court stand and far better then some service I have had a stand alone restaurants. I happily drive the 2 hours from Lancaster for Tomo. :)

This place is amazing. No frills food court action but the sushi is awesome! Kiss of fire is the perfect combination of smoky and hot. I have gone to many fancy sushi places in Philly but this place is way better.

Great prices and even better sushi. I was skeptical about this place, since the location didn't seem to be the best. We couldn't find it at first and had to call them to make sure we were getting close. Our meals came with really good miso soup. Super fresh, no fishy smell. Awesome texture. The owner gave us a couple of free rolls, as well. I will definitely come here again. :)

I was in great need of a tasty snack, so I decided to swing by Tomo. Unable to decide on which roll to order, I asked the young man at the counter which was his favorite. He told me about a special roll with spicy crab and spicy tuna, said something that was incomprehensible amidst the din of the food court, and finished with, "so it has a kind of bbq flavor". I was skeptical, because I've really gotten burned on some crappy special rolls lately, but I decided to go for it. I sat down in the food court and waited. The roll seemed complicated to put together. Then, I saw the sushi chef take the whole roll and wrap it loosely in foil, then twist the ends to form a pouch. Then I saw him pour some sort of liquid all over the plate underneath the roll. Then they set the whole thing on fire!!! OK, call me easily amused but... FIRE! And the best part? There was some sort of banana leaf or similar underneath the roll that, when charred by the flames, gave the roll this incredible smoky, delicious flavor. It was one of the best special rolls I ever tasted. The fire, therefore, was not just a gimmick but really added to the flavor profile of the roll. And on top of this, it was $12 and *easily* large enough for a whole meal. I love this place. I feel like I can't give it five stars because of the total lack of atmosphere, which is not really its fault, but still. However, if I was rating just the taste of the sushi alone, I would give it five stars.

I honestly love this place. I've been coming here since they opened about 8 years ago (more or less) and to me, other places don't compare. I used to not be a huge sushi fan because the summer they first opened, I came nearly everyday. I took a long break from it and strayed away from any sushi. But lately I've been craving sushi everyday. And this place is the only one that fulfills the craving. The chefs get the taste just right and are nothing less than amazing. They're always friendly and always engage me in small talk either it be I'm waiting for my food to be served or I'm paying for it to be taken out. Wednesdays are the day to come as they are buy two rolls and get one free. You can't really beat that deal for the quality you get in return.

Awesome sushi. Excellent quality. Innovative rolls, with combos of ingredients you wouldn't otherwise think of, like shrimp with kiwi fruit.... As others have written, they are in the upstairs "food court" area above the Hmart on Terminal Square near 69th Street. There seem to be at the most 2 people there making the sushi/taking your order/money/etc. So Service may be a little slow during busy lunch & dinner times. But, the quality, at a good price, is WELL worth it. There are a few specialty rolls you won't find elsewhere. If you are in the mood for great sushi, it's worth a drive/el ride from the city. Nevermind the "food court-ish" ambience, you'll get over it once you taste your first bite....

Still give Tomo 5 stars. Sushi is fresh and tastes good. You can also buy Tomo Sushi at H Mart and it is buy one get one roll free so for $9.99 I had two rolls and 6 pieces of sushi.

Pink lady was really good... Fattening though. And the people who work there are really friendly.

The sushi here is really delicious and fresh and I would definitely recommend. Just be prepared to open your wallet as I tend to spend around $40 for 4 rolls. I give it 4 stars because being given the (delicious) miso soup the sushi is supposed to come with is hit or miss. Sometimes it's already in the bag and other times I have to ask for it.

  • E.G. C.

Tomo is a hidden gem in the 'burbs above the HMart grocery store in a food court, nestled in with other Asian restaurants. The sushi is consistently fresh, the portions are good, and the staff ensures any food you cannot eat is not included in the rolls while still not just substituting things willy nilly. I would have given them five stars, but the last time I went, the miso soup was sub-par and by far worse, there were bones in one of my rolls and all they did was apologize. I am hoping the new management mentioned in another review is not to blame and it was an honest error.

  • Anne K.

Sushi's great and everything, but the fact that they serve an excellent rendition of my favorite Korean dish in the world (hwe dup bap!) is the reason they get 5 stars. Tomo is tucked away in a food court, so there's plenty of seating available too!

  • Steve S.

Might be one of the best kept secrets in Delco. The sushi is consistently good, and their specialty rolls are consistently 2-3 dollars cheaper than most places I go to. I just brought my wife here, and now she is hooked. The Spicy California Roll may not be "real sushi" to many people, but damn it tastes good! And the wife highly enjoyed a huge bowl of spicy chicken noodles. Well, she enjoyed half of it. A doggie bag was required. Not a bad thing at all. Getting a roll of sushi here combined with another dish from another place in the food court satisfies my variety jones as well.

I spend $32 on sushi.. lol worth it tho. Very good for a small place in a supermarket. The name for the roll is funny, like sparkles, big mama, and etc.

The fish is always fresh, the owner makes and decorates the rolls herself, she puts care and pride in what she does. It's not worth going to a restaurant to spend more for service and get less quality when you can go get your sushi fix here. The fried rolls are great, the spicy stuff is spicy enough . Great miso soup and seaweed salad. Tempura is awesome. Portions are big enough and the price is fair. I go there a lot and it's nice that she remembers what I like!

I've lived in this area for 40+ years and became a lover of sushi about 10 years ago. I cannot believe this place was right under my nose the whole time and I didnt even know it. This place is simply awesome. The fish is fresh fresh fresh.... everytime we go (about once a week now). The presentation is phenominal. The selection is endless. The prices are unbelieveable (compared to the prices of Margaret Kuo, Hikaru, etc) The service is friendly and quick. The atmosphere is authentic. If you like sushi and live within 15-20 minutes what is taking you so long?

Perhaps the best sushi I have ever had. Tomo is in a food court situated above the H Mart, an asian Supermarket in Upper Darby. Normally I would never venture to Upper Darby for food, but the Yelp reviews for Tomo were outstanding. When I walked into the food court, I was immediately a bit concerned as it looked to be straight out of a mall or airport. I did think it was a good sign though that my girlfriend and I were the only white people in the food court. To my satisfaction, my sushi was delicious. I got three rolls - spicy tuna, rainbow, and spider. The spicy tuna and rainbow were both excellent. The spider I won't get again, but I think it just wasn't to my particular tastes. The fish seemed very fresh and the rolls were flavorful. The 3 rolls were a shade under $20, though keep in mind there is a buy 2 get 1 free deal on Wednesdays and I ate on a Wednesday. While I certainly can't say the rolls are cheap, I also would not say that they are expensive, and certainly not expensive for their quality. I am already excited to go back again. As an aside, I got a bubble tea from the bakery counter in the food court which was good, but too sweet for me. My gf is not a sushi fan, but liked the piece of rainbow roll that she tried. She got general tsao chicken for the chinese stand and liked it. I thought it was pretty standard take-out chinese, but definitely on the tastier side of things.

Sushi? If u come on the right day. Doesn't seem fresh everyday. They don't serve white tuna . The rolls are ok. They sell the same rolls buy one get on free around 8 downstairs. They don't make any rolls that are killers .

As I was walking through the jungles of Upper Darby, I walked into Upper Darby's Hmart. First I was scared, but since I was starving in the Jungle, I just had to try them out. HOW DELICIOUS! I come here literally every other day with my wife. The food is superb, but most importantly the people seem like they come from Heaven. They are so sweet and welcoming. :)

Possibly the best tasting sushi for its price. The owners are very polite and the orders come out at a decent time. If you want affordable delicious, creative, gorgeous sushi, come here.

I was at H Mart this week for dinner and decided to get sushi! I ordered seaweed salad, spider roll, and darby roll. I have to say the reason why I couldn't give them 5 stars is because their seaweed salad came in a small sauce cup and it tastes dry:( But their Spider Roll and Darby Roll are the BOMB! I have never taste anything like it. Tell you what, I would definitely be back next week to get those again!

I LOVE THIS PLACE. I have been a loyal customer for years and lunches/dinners at Tomo have always been a success! Go up the escalators as soon as you walk into the H-Mart grocery store and a magical food court awaits you. Really reasonably priced sushi for really fresh and quality ingredients. Seriously. $10 for sushi/sashimi bento that really gets you full? CRAZY. Seating at the sushi bar is very limited but you can sit anywhere in the food court. The attention to detail the chefs put into making the sushi is incredible. I am mesmerized by them every time I go! The okonomiyaki is delicious (they don't always have it), and the specialty rolls are great. Who doesn't love a volcano roll? PS: Don't forget to pick up some bubble tea from the fantastic bakery next door! Lavender and Jasmine are my favorites!

  • Brian M.

Perhaps not the best sushi I've ever had, but for the price, its a great option! You could go to many "good" sushi joints and pay 2-3 times what you pay at Tomo. But the budget price, doesn't mean you get inferior sushi. It was very fresh and the rolls and combination plates were presented beautifully. Great attention to detail!

Yum! I love sushi so anytime I need a sushi fix, I head here. It is a very relaxed atmosphere and the cost is reasonable. The sushi tastes great and they pay attention to details - it comes out in a very artistic way. Also, the staff is very nice. I recommend it.

If you like sushi Tomo is one of Philly/Delcos best kept secrets. On the second floor of the H-Mart at 69th street you'll never find it if you don't know where to look, but please go hunting! I've been to so many sushi joints in Philly and the surrounding area that I've lost track of them all classy establishments and lunch boxes, none can compare to the amazing delight that is Tomo. Their sushi and sashimi is fresh and flavorful. they cover all the basics and plenty of the fancier rolls. All delicious! Their tempura is also quite a treat. I probably should try some of their other dishes at some point but I never seem to make it past the sushi! Of you eat there everything is beautifully presented on ceramic and don't be surprised if your order is accompanist by a complementary bowl of miso soup and a salad with ginger dressing. The people at the counter are super nice. Oh did I mention how cheap this place is? Awesome if you're on a budget, and there are free water dispensers all over the food court if you're really scrimping for that perfect sushi meal.

Tomo is located on the second floor of H Mart in Upper Darby. On the second floor is an assortment of Korean shops, but there is also a food court, which is where Tomo is. Being in an Asian mart, I could only expect great things from Tomo in regards to its seafood, and I wasn't disappointed. For about five dollars, I got a lovely presentation of a spicy tuna roll, ginger & wasabi and all. In addition to this roll, they gave me a bowl of miso soup, for nothing extra! The sushi was delicious and fresh, and it was quite inexpensive considering I got soup as well. I tipped them for their generosity, and the ladies behind the counter are great :). If you're reading this review and wondering where it is, it is in the H Mart, up the escalators and on the second floor, towards the left in the food court area. Delicious! I understand the H Mart's entry on Yelp already has a lot of reviews, but I think each individual business deserves its own entry. That's why I made this one!
